Essence Woman was developed during Mar Ripoll’s residency at GlogauAIR in Berlin. The project grew from research into the work of Jeanne Mammen, Lotte Laserstein, Hannah Höch and Anni Albers—artists whose contributions have often been underrepresented within the traditional art historical canon.
Rather than quoting their work directly, Ripoll deconstructs fragments of their visual languages and integrates them into her own layered painting process. Through painting, installation and video, the project explores femininity as a field of identity, imagination and power.
Gesture, fragmentation and transparency allow images to appear, dissolve and re-emerge across multiple layers, connecting historical references with Ripoll’s broader investigation into perception, memory and the construction of meaning.
